Amber Ma: Constructing Fairy tale Worlds with Watercolor Illustrations

Like most children, Amber Ma grew up playing with imaginary friends as
a child. This childhood experience unlocked an unlimited imagination
filled with creativity that viewers can see in her works.

A tree with a lung connecting to all the branches, a condemned
building floats in the air reminiscent of the spirit mountains in
daoist culture, a fantasy creature with a fish's head and a human's
body...as ideas like these keep coming, Amber gradually adds more and
more imagery on paper and allows the paintings to organically grow.

In this way, her creative process is less results-driven and instead
focuses on narrating stories and going on a journey of personal
self-exploration
