Chengyu are commonly known as Chinese idioms consisting of 4 characters.
Without background knowledge or any kind of context, a direct translation doesn't always make the most sense.

We asked three Americans what they thought the Chengyu meant using their own life experiences and knowledge to try and establish some kind of context.
