China Now: New Literati Art

During Asia Week this year, ART100 New York collaborates with the Beijing gallery Ink Studio, showcasing seven pre-eminent contemporary Chinese ink artists: Zheng Chongbin, Yang Jiechang, Li Huasheng, Li Jin, Wang Huangsheng, Li Gang and Bing Yi. The show is titled "China Now: New Literati Art."These artists bring contemporary practice to bear on the literati painting school (wen ren hua) which dates back to the 14th Century when scholar painters radically championed expression of inner character over technical skill.Sinovision Journal intern reporter Elaine Yi Chen brings you the story.
