This summer, Asia Society presents an exhibition that showcases ink art across Asian history.

Clouds Stretching For A Thousand Miles comes from the celebrated Tang Dynasty calligrapher Chang Yen-Yuan. He compared the primary stroke of traditional calligraphy practice — the horizontal line — to “clouds stretching a thousand miles”. This metaphor describes how Asian artists are influenced by ink art in their creations.
