Li Shuang: If Only the Cloud Knows

Artist li shuang has always been intrigued by social issues such as technical innovation, mass media, cultural identity and gender studies.

She investigates these subjects with a scholarly analysis but instead of presenting a thorough final report, Li Shuang uses an experimental approach to bring audiences into her own narrative so that they can interpret what Shuang has discovered.

Reflecting upon electronic storage and its influence on human memory, Li Shuang uploaded all of her digital photographs and text messages between 2005 and 2015 onto an interactive website called afterward, she deleted the backup copies which made the website the only copy left in existence. The website not only contains Li Shuang’s personal memories for all the world to see, it also allows users to delete any photographs or text messages after leaving a message…
